Nutritious snacks for health

Whether you’re at school, at work, or just chilling at home, eating snacks in short intervals can really keep you going through the day and even make you feel energised and productive. We all crave something sweet, spicy, or crunchy every time we wish to snack. Although fried foods, sweet cravings, sodas and other such foods make for a tasty snack, they are definitely not healthy for your body.

Snacking isn’t a bad thing at all, in fact, it is healthy to eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of a few large meals. Although it is true that old habits are hard to break, it is certainly not impossible to switch to healthier options. Read on to find out some simple but effective ways in which you can slowly add nutritious superfoods to your snacking options.

  • Super snacks
  • Superfoods include various foods ranging from fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry to nuts and seeds. Replacing junk foods with fruits is a great way to get started on this journey. They’re not only tasty, but also provide you with a great number of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Apples, berries, carrots, dried fruits and organic pumpkin seeds are some foods that you can start off with.

  • Go nuts
  • Dried fruits and nuts are the perfect non-perishable snacking options that are not only easy to carry and have a delicious nutty flavour, but also contain omega 3 fatty acids and are highly nutritious.

  • Take it on the go
  • Prior planning and packing your meals can help greatly in trying to avoid unhealthy snacks that you would buy from elsewhere. When you prepare your meals for the day, don’t forget to add a snack or two for your shorter breaks as well. Go for foods that are easy to eat and carry, don’t spill, and are nutritious.

  • Skip the high sugar
  • Whenever you’re looking for snacking options, try and avoid foods and drinks that come with excessive sugars, sodium and preservatives. Skip the sodas, soft drinks and opt for unsweetened tea or coffee. You can also replace high-sugar beverages with fresh fruit juices, coconut water and other detox drinks.
